Story for RSP - Joan Rivers

Joan rivers joined us this morning, in studio with Ryan Seacrest, to discuss her new documetary "A Piece of Work", that will be realeased in selected theatres, today, 10th June.

Joan compares herself to that of Chris Rock, and Kathy Griffen, and describes herself as the "tamest" between the 3 of them. Kathy and Joan have known each other for the past 20 years and shows no hard feelings towards Kathy when she started doing her routine. A lot of people may see Kathy’s routine as that of Joan’s, as it has been described as, "its kind of yours". Joan says "its so good to see her kind of break through, she should have broken through with Suddenly Susan".
Joan describes her documentary as 'serious', and she explains that she has two documentarians who decided on a new and different approach, and whom have been nominated for an Emmy's and Oscars for their works.

The two documentarians filmed Joan's documentary for a period of 14 months, and Joan goes on to decribe them as "they became my family". Joan jokes about the two male documentarians being vegetarian and how she is now aware of every vegetarian restaurant in America.

The aim of Joan's documentary and what she describes as her motto is, "get off your ass and go to work". Joan also wanted her show to prtray a message of "stop wining" ang that "age is difficult" as this business and industry is a tough job but at the end of the day you have just got to do it. to add to that, Joan wanted her audience to also see her humor and how funny she can be, as a lot of people mainly know her from her appearances on the carpet as well as "Now How'd You Get So Rich" and feels that many people have forgotten that she is actively involved in stand-up.
An important event that occurs in the documentary is how Joan came about receiving the job of being the first person to go out onto the red carpet and speak her mind.

This came about when two E! executives were in discussion regarding the red carpet and putting someone out there who was willing to speak their mind, and Melissa, Joan's daughter, suggested that her mother was the right person for the job. Joan describes herself as "i will do anything, cause you never know what doors gonna be the one thats gonna work".
when it comes to Joan, nothing is too small. She explains that "you never know whats going to work, see i do everything, try everything".

Joan, 77, still feels as young as ever, and regularly exercises and keeps active up and down the stairs in her triplex residence. With her last big romance ending 3 years ago, she still enjoys the dating scene, and jokes about not missing the sexual part of a relationship.

Joan discusses the likes of her celebrity friends, but an interesting topic that she openly tackles, is that of Jesse James, whom accompanied Joan on 'Celebrity Apprentice'. She describes him as "adorable to us, he was lovely, he was sweet, he was a gentleman, he would help you pick up your things".

Joan goes on to speak about her thoughts regarding the Jesse James and Sandra Bullock split, and states "I was shocked, and i was very sad, very sad for her too, but i bet they get back together. I bet he's gonna clean himself up".
Catch Joan Rivers' new real, honest and truthful documentary, "A Piece of Work", that airs today, 10th June, at all selected theatres.
